Memory stick help

Hi All.
I have a new Holland T7.210 and have just started using memory stick to save fields from tractor monitor to usb stick.
It all seemed to work but when I have put in laptop to download I see loads of files but they all seem to be random numbers and letters .
Being a bit of a techno learner just wondered if I need certain app to open files to show fields.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I know nothing about the specifics you what you can export from your tractor but you will likely need some sort of app. I doubt windows comes preloaded with anything suitable. Some files types are easy to open with windows apps or freeware, others require specialist apps, usually available for a fee... when you open the memory stick on the laptop what file extension are they, this gives some clues as to what you may need to open them. for instance is the ending .xls .txt . log .gpx

If the file extension is not shown (which on newer versions of windows the default is not) you may need to change your windows settings so you can see them

This might tell you what they are.
I am not sure that MKS extension mentioned in that link is the same file format as the MKS files from a tractor... I cant imagine why a tractor would be generating video stream subtitles :ROFLMAO: Must be some instruction manual that suggests what you can do with your data exported from your tractor? There are commonly used extensions but any software developer can make up their own extension name when developing a program so there can be multiple file types that happen to share the same extension name but are unrelated!

It is unlikely that anything you download from the NH screen will be viewable by anything other than farm management software, eg Gatekeeper, PLM software, Farmworks, Agleader SMS or Agfinity. The most you could possibly hope to get out of the inofmation with out the afore mentioend would be a log file possibly in .txt format.

Welcome to my world
Thanks for that I will look into it.

As above, I would imagine the files saved to the USB stick are created by proprietary software that you will not be able to open or play with in just windows 10. Only compatible software will be able to see and use them.

PLM viewer is free from the NH website. It's just a rebadged variant of the trimble equivalent. Like all things it gives you the opportunity to play and the temptation to upgrade for more functionality.

I think this is all to do with New Holland’s PLM.
I had problems because I was trying to use a USB stick that was too big memory wise.
IIRC, it must be no bigger than 4 gigs.
NH have a guy called Ian Beecher-Jones who is their Expert and can help you:

How do you delete previous yield maps without deleting field names? Which folder contains the yield data?

Do you mean on the memory stick or the Computer?

Once you have set up your PLM management tree on the computer and transferred the data from your Combine/Tractor Inteliview to it via the memory stick to it, IIRC, you can clear that Yield Data from the memory stick, but leave the field names and crop on it. Or you can add those Field details on the Inteliview, but they will appear as Capitals, instead of lower case from the Computer management tree. In effect, you are starting a new year (task) on the management tree.

Ideally, you need to review your management tree, before harvest starts, assigning this year’s crop to each field on your Computer, then via the memory stick to Inteliview. But you can do it on Inteliview instead. It just appears in Capital letters instead.

Ian Beecher-Jones will know and can run you through it all.

I use Gatekeeper on the computer, not PLM. Just trying to see how to clean off previous data, not that the stick is particularly cluttered up.

I'm seeing the dealer tomorrow for refresher training for myself and the operators so will discuss then. I've looked at some of Ian B-J's videos in YouTube.

Thanks for the tips so far (y)

It is amazing how much data those sticks hold. Sometimes I have forgotten to clear last year’s maps off them and carried on, by editing this year’s crops onto Inteliview.
Guess who’s fields Ian used to make his videos on YouTube?
