Have a ridgeline coat and smock , both leak like a sieve
They are no better than my hoggs struther smock
In fairness they are ok for cold dry days
@Nithsdale is the smock meister

Steady on! I'm just a Mr not a mister 🤣

Love my smocks but I'm not 'up' on what's currently available... I settled on my Deerhunter and the cheapo one so haven't really been looking.

I have seen Rydale are currently doing one and if I had to buy a new one I'd probably give it a go

I always thought these looked great, but a bit too expensive for me!

I do like the smock , it’s just not waterproof at all, not what the op wants but for farm use I now use Austrian army goretex coats
Even got matching mitts for on the quad in winter

Got army mitts for the bike... they didn't last lambing before leaking. Really disappointed in them

Smocks are fine 90% of the time but oilskins are still best for torrential (no different to most other jackets really)

Why smock then, if just walking and fishing? If you like the best get yourself a Ptarmigan Pro, they don’t leak!

Bought one of these last winter, as could bring myself to spend the money of a ridgeline from farming. It’s good, the pockets let it down tho. They are big which I want for tagging calves and lambing. But made of rubbish thin material and two now have holes in, and I have a selection of sheep tags and rubber rings floating around in the smock.

I have serious doubts that a Ridgeline smock will stick serious agricultural/outdoor work. The material is rather thin and lightweight. I only wear mine commuting and the stitching is coming apart in places. It has never seen a single bit of mud or grime and it does keep me warm and dry in the main but it's never seen a single second of the type of work like you guys would do. I reckon thorns or barbed wire would punch through it or even tear it very readily. If you put anything serious in the pockets they will wear through in no time I should think.

I reckon you need to go to military surplus type stuff which will be cheaper and so you can buy several and then wash them and wear them in rotation or you bite the bullet and have a waxed stockman type coat for seriously adverse weather but then if you try to do anything too strenuous you'll be sweating as it just doesn't breathe. You must be able to get a waxed version of a gilet or whatever they are called with slightly more width/length across the shoulders/sleeve so you can stay dry but have exposed arms so you don't sweat? The bonus with waxed stuff is that if it gets dirty/minging you can just hose or powerwash them off and hang to dry.

How times have changed! Back in the 50s, it was two new meal bags. "New" as the hessian still had the natural oil and would repel water. One bag held up with baler twine for the waist and another, with a corner poked in to make a hood, for head and back. That would keep you dry walking through waist high kale on a shooting day and cost nothing! :ROFLMAO:
