Merchants closing Accounts

And in relation to closing unused accts, there is a cost associated with holding open an account, albeit relatively small, but this all adds up especially if there is no return for years!

As farmers, your looking at your books to cut costs wherever you can, move things around to avoid taxes wherever possible, so why are these businesses so bad for trying to stave off necrosis of margin?

In times of plenty you can pick and choose .
So many 'fighting "for your custom these days if the "small " honest regular paper free and bacs direct paying farmer is not their "remit" then it's a sad day for all that these Co-Op's were set up for.
The old boys would have a turn ?
Bet the credit limit would have covered the "big" farmers spend too ?

Our account wasn't unused. We were spending £2000/year with them and always paid monthly. That's not good enough for them so they've lost our business and we've set up and account with a local feed supplier working from a farmyard. They told me I was about the 15th person to come to them from countrywide so instantly there turnover will be up by at the very least £15,000 meaning profits are also up.

I don't think the countrywide management really gave any idea what they've done to be honest as 2 weeks ago it was 60 just from our local branch according to the manager who I know quite well. How many branches do they have?

That's fair enough but not always got card with you and all those slips nightmare to do vat etc.
Point being they never notified us .
They made most go paperfree with bills emailed out then pay by BACS so NO cost to them in printing or post ?
Yes that really ticks me off. They go paperless but we still have to print and keep a paper invoice for records / VAT. I'm sure there's a few receipts that either don't get sent or I forget to log and print. That's probably more annoying than accounts closing. Vodafone seem to change on a whim and without me even requesting; sometimes a text to say my bill is ready on line) , sometimes an email .......

Countrywide therefore announces today that it has appointed advisors PwC to explore a potential sale of the Retail business.

So, what's actually going to be left after that, if anything?

After all, retail's where all the money is, there being none in seed, feed, fertilizer, agrochems or marketing.

And machinery was soo 70s.

£6M on a new "multichannel" ERP system....then decide to bail out of Retail.......!.....
looking at some of the costs of this "implementation" makes you wonder who was signing off the costs....£500K current year for Cornwall Farmers data integration costs ????

Having already got out of livestock/feed/forage/arable/crop.....and now retail....the way I read this is that all that's left is "rural energy" & " turf and amenity"

Picked up on this yesterday. Will there be any buyers? Probabaly only MVF and Wynnstay in the frame.

Do you think the Directors feel embarrassed about their remuneration over the last two years considering the results?

This IT job has a lot to answer for in a lot of companies :rolleyes:

Had an enjoyable chat with an "old school" Chairman last night .......... before your days ....;) still has his finger on the pulse at 90, truly remarkable.

Local ex. Cornwall Farmers running out of everything. Racking is looking empty and rarely got what you want. You ask to order something and they say they 'don't know'.

New computer system seems a nightmare for the counter staff. Seems to me they are bleeding the branch dry. Loads of staff changes and nobody seems to know what's going on. I can see it closing soon to be honest which would be a shame.

When CW took over they put everything that wasn't in their catalogue on sale and I mean on sale. I bought 3 items which should have been £230 for £25 each. Everything was just binned at 10% of retail price. Ridiculous really. They could have paid a staff member to ebay it all and made way more money. I would have done it for them for a cut. As it was, my £25 bargains went straight on the bay and cleared an average of £170 each.
