Merlo electrics

Hi all,

Merlo 32.7 started. Having electrical issues,

Dash goes dead with no power when key switch is on run and start positions, but lights up and works in the in between heat position.

Currently running with hot wire to injection pump stop solenoid and then holding key switch in heat position to power dash and enable hydraulics and hydrostatic.

Obviously this has to be very short term but hoping for dome pointers on where to start.

Is this likely to be the key switch, a dash solenoid (hard wired to pcb) or something else?

Fuses all seem OK on back of dash, are there any others?

Thanks in advance

Yep. Under that dash is circuit board with fuses and relays and lost of plugs. They love to burn and corrode. I have repaired them before.
Lift it up and check.
Check the ignition key barrel you may have bad joint and is back feeding from glow plugs circuit when you turn the key.

Call me if you still need my help.

OK thanks, yes I've been in there for a look, all started with broken wire for front work lights where it enters multi pin plug.

Couldn't get the pin out of the plug, so took a live feed from terminal by the separate 15 amp fuse.

Then fitted an led light bar, figured if fuse OK then all should be good but wasn't that long ago so probably cooked something.

Will use a relay if get this fixed, will check switch key terminals but may have to resort to running more live feeds to the boom hydraulics unloader and I guess the transmission control unit, wherever they are to get moving, don't have time to wait for dash to be looked at, need it every day.

Update, went out last night to have another look, and everything worked, wonder if it was just something getting a bit hot. Ignition switch all looked fine, the lights feed is from a 15 amp fused terminal direct from ignition switch so only component seeing the load from that should be the swith itself.

I'll stick in a relay when I get a chance, in case it's overloading the switch.

Check the plugs under the dash they burn the pins and melt the plastic - that gives you bad contact. Include white sockets for rocker switches.
Check well does dashboard catch fire.
Check if the cables where hot and they melt together.

That dash is a right barsteward of a thing, those switches are a pain to line up, then they start to burn the terminals.

I have ours pretty much rewired, think the beacon & hazzards are about the only thing left on the dash.

Masters help with advice. We delivered a used Merlot 38.13 from 2007 to Istria. The problem was already unburdened, he didn't want to turn it on. Weak battery. We connected the cables and managed to get out of the trailer onto the ramp. We accidentally turned it off. The boy put the cables from the other battery again, but WRONG POLES. After that there is no chance of getting contact on the lock. Direction indicators and lights work but do not turn on. What should I do please? Thanks in advance

I have a similar problem. My newly purchased P38.13 will not run. No power to the ignition lock. After we have short-circuited the wrong poles on the extension cables, there is no power to the ignition lock. Large fuses / 80A / near the battery are OK. The fuses behind the control panel are also fine. Still not starting. The turn signals and lights work. What shall I do?
