You could build 5000 x 10 million gallon reservoirs for £3.2 billion. Enough to irrigate 1 million acres with 2” of water annually and reduce winter flooding risk to downstream towns.
That’s just using typical cost to farmer to build a reservoir. If you rolled it out nationally at scale you could reduce the costs further. There would also be opportunities for hydroelectric generation in hilly areas.
This really is a very screwed up country.

So not enough money to support combat veterans, but £1.2bn for a weather computer which will be approx 15 to 30% accurate going on current performance..

what’s the point? as far as I can see, there 2 industries directly affected by the weather - agri and fishing, and govt doesn’t give 2 fecks about either, so this is a massive waste of money if it’s just to let people know what time to walk the dog or if they’ll need a coat at the football.

They probably sell the weather data to companies like supermarkets to help them forecast when to sell BBQ food or ice cream.
