Just had test results back for some Costello at 26.5% infected. Never had the like before in my farming career- what is the view on suitability for home saving and or dressing?

Not had a don or zon on the stuff for sale yet, and not looking forward to it on the back of that.

No takers?

Seed man reckons it'll be fine as spd will deal with up to 40% infection, but I'm on the hunt for a second opinion!

Don’t plant it would be my advice. Why gamble your entire crop on shitty seed. All your inputs will be the same so May as well plant decent seed and not have the worry of a disaster possibly. Put a few seed on some kitchen roll on a plate and wet it. The seeds will grow but so does the fusarium eventually taking over that seed plus infecting the surrounding ones. fusarium is a major disease here and a big difference value from low to high levels of infection. High can be fed to cattle and chickens but only low for feeder pigs and sows. Not something I’d be willing to gamble on.

Dress it and it will be fine. Just don't sow it late into a poor seedbed. I've done this with 2020 farm saved seed at 10-20% Nivale on testing and it yielded fine this year.

I'm having the same thoughts i've had some seed tests back with very high fusarium levels but around where we are we havent had high rain fall either at flowering or around harvest, i gave the crops a T3 and no visual signs of fusarium. I had ZON and DON test done and they came back low.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
