When you are tight on space you can't carry any passengers.

Does make you focus on making every square inch count.

They keep no product on site.
Its all shipped to warehouse as soon as off the line.

It is a very efficient business which is why Arla didn't want to sell it.
It’s also producing a long life product which makes it easier to be a price setter rather than a price setter

More products made in the UK will push up farm gate prices

If more products are made here the only way it will push up farm gate price is if the supply isn’t here and then you also need the demand for the product, if the demand for the increased supply is as a commodity product to place on the world market I’m not so sure it would increase farm gate unless the world supply of the product is lower! Most of Arla’s profit comes from branding not volume

If the UK produces X million litres of milk and that volume is currently processed in the UK then any increase in demand would push up the farmgate price.

I suspect you are connected to Arla if you suggest that having more milk processed in the UK could push prices down.

Looks a fantastic site to sell for houses to fund a new state of the art factory elsewhere to me!
I believe they have not long bought the leasehold, as Sid said it's a very efficient factory, they have been Continually investing in the production facilities and exploit every square metre of the small site. I think they would be staying put for the foreseeable.

I see frontera are selling all their China farms and joint venture units, surely that was a mad business model to start with?

I think senior management got obsessed with world domination.
A few years ago there was a huge disconnect between the processing side and the supply side. A change a the top seems to be improving things.

I agree it’s a long road to produce a product that adds value when selling in a export market. It’s hard/costly to establish a brand but if you don’t develop/buy anything you won’t get anywhere.
That’s the biggest issue with seasonal production the factories can’t be run very efficiently which will result in a lower price to the farmer.

I think having an off season for the factory is a good thing. It gives you time to maintain and improve it without worrying about shutdown, you can also staff it it in such a way that there aren't loads of staff sitting round doing nothing but it does take some thought.

But is crediton a long term business unless they invest in the factory, with the site being in a difficult position it does make that difficult. If you stand still surely you will go backwards. Nothing against crediton at all.View attachment 935202

Is that a dairy factory?
It doesn't even look like an industrial estate, how do they get away running that 24/7.
Could they not sell it and moved to an easier site?
Looks a nightmare.

I winter hoggs on a dairy farm in Shropshire they get 30p with arla mind you they need it I'd say its a father and son team with a workman 4 days a week he reckons 150 cows is a full time job for 2 without the tractor work and everything else they start half 5 in the morning and finish half 6 at night but always seems quite there during the day

It always was leasehold, they might have taken the opportunity to buy the freehold.
Its always surprising to see the factory right in the middle of Crediton, access doesn't look to good.

Access is ok until you get onto site. Outbound lorries do a lap round the building, In bound I can't remember.

It works, like I said big isn't always beautiful and they have invested a lot in past few years.

Their milk field is compact, just like the factory
