Hi, I'm running out of forage for my sucklers but have barley straw, I'm going to get some molasses to pour on and feed the straw, how many litres of molasses do I need to pour on one large straw bale, and what's best application method etc?
Thanks for any advice

I saw someone line the bales up in the yard and just soak them with a hose from the tank .
You be better selling the straw and buying some hay though

Depending on the molasses and the straw, it can run straight through the bale without really soaking in. Better to put the bales out for feeding, if you’re breaking them up, then add the molasses.

Quantity wise, it depends on condition of cows but we found a litre or two per cow per day of QLF Suckler Profit was enough and worked well.

We feed pot ale syrup by putting the straw into the feed carts and then pouring the pot ale on top at a rate of two litres a cow/day. The cows love it and they it fairly encourages them to eat the straw. We have a tank for the pot ale and we just pour the pot ale into the loader bucket which is premarked to a level . Cow’s do well on it and are very content.
