Muller and First Milk have both confirmed that suppliers are set to receive an increase in milk prices in the coming months.
Dairy farmers supplying Muller who meet the conditions for the Muller Advantage programme – which aims to improve supply chain collaboration, herd health and reductions in environmental impact – will receive a milk price of 29.00ppl from June 1, 2021, which is a 0.75ppl increase on its pervious price.
Rob Hutchison, chief operating officer at Muller Milk & Ingredients said:
First Milk
A spokesperson for First Milk confirmed that for the third consecutive month, it is increasing its member milk price.
From July 1, 2021, its price will increase by 0.57ppl, which is possible due to improvements in market returns, as well as the benefits of First Milk’s continued capital investment in driving efficiency and productivity at its processing sites.
From July 1, the First Milk price on a manufacturing standard litre will be 30.50 ppl, including the member premium.
World Milk Day
The Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW) is encouraging consumers across the world to raise a glass to milk – and other dairy products – on World Milk Day, June 1.
World Milk Day was first launched in 2001 by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), to celebrate and increase public awareness about the nutritional and economic importance of milk and milk products around the globe.
Speaking from his Pembrokeshire dairy farm, FUW vice president Dai Miles said:
“We are calling on everybody to celebrate and drink milk on June 1.
“The FUW recognises the importance of milk as a global food and is celebrating World Milk Day to increase public awareness about all aspects of natural milk, such as its natural origin and nutritional value, as well as its economic importance throughout the globe.”
