Clive, how much downward flex is there in the wings?
A folding system like what the horsch uses does offer a lot of options. Nice lift at the headlands too.
Have not seen vaddys to suffer with that problem, same idea really? ?There are compromises to be made and the steel spring based coulter down pressure system on the 750 is not as good as a hydraulic system on the cross slot. The pressure changes over the travel of the coulter. Indeed there are some instances where the spring has been replaced with a hydraulic cylinder albeit rare. As far as I can see the rubber sausage suspension compounds these issues and has more scope for early wear. The set up gives more potential for coulter sideways travel whereas on the 750 by the time you get to that point (years later) you can turn the pins round. Just my opinion of course.
Well, you can buy two 12m horschs for the same price as one 6m cross slot, new rubber sausages are cheap compared to running a CSThere are compromises to be made and the steel spring based coulter down pressure system on the 750 is not as good as a hydraulic system on the cross slot. Although nothing to do with a direct drill thread we changed to a 6 M rapid last year @Clive , everyone told us that there was no way our 200 hoss tractor would pull it ,,,,,,, no problem what so ever , she flew , even banged beans in at 3 1/2 inches albeit at 12 kph instead of cereals at 14 kph . I would certainly try your 240 hoss tractor first and if it falls short then you have to have a rethink , maybe hire something for a month
like a 6mtr 750a
I would have thought a 6 m vaddy with it's 80 odd discs and leveling board in full work mode would take a lot more pulling than a 750 a
Yer, weights the killer, we pull our 4m 750 with a 516, run about 1550rpm, 8-10kph, easy peasy, but moving the drill about with a full hopper that little tractor knows that drill is there.
What sort of terrain are you on Clive? We have tried the 6m Avatar and our 6215R are maxed out at 6kph on the steeper going. Not sure if 12m would go on our 7310R!!
