My plan to enter the DD world

Sounds to me that your buddies jumped in with both feet in a bad year and jumped out with both feet in a good year! Would be better to phase direct drilling in slowly a bit each year in the earliest easiest drilling slots rather than expecting a drill to do all things straight away.

Simon Chiles quote is a good one "tillage is like a hamster on a wheel. The secret is knowing when to get off." This year was good enough to get off the wheel for most crop establishment.

In fairness to @07tractorman he has been dd'ing for a number of years, 6 - 7 maybe?
He definitely can't be accused of not trying tyo make it work.

Phasing in dd'ing is the main reason behind me keeping my subsoiler in the rotation - to help with structuring. Although - I actually can't see myself dropping the subsoiler - if it works well, stick with it!

He has said 3 years. Last year was a pointless year to look at anything, all sorts of things failed..

But to be fair I don't know what crop rotation he is using (if its WW/WOSR then I'd agree not to DD) and I've never personally been a claydon fan given the open slot propensity and lack of ground following.

Yes keep the subsoiler you never know when you use it.

There will be a new zero-till British disc drill in the field next summer, designed and built in the UK.

Stay posted!:finger:

Can you give us a timeline on any announcements, like Knockie Im currently looking at a few alternatives and playing with a few ideas in my head, if something new is coming out Id like to know sooner rather than later. So go on drop a few hints as to its makeup. Also like Fieldspar you have my demand for seed and fert also.

Would be great if it had interchangeable disc/tine units to suit crops/conditions ?
I already have interchangeable disc/tine units, though it's normally referred to though as two different drills. A caddy like Weavings can change between disc and tine units, but is than any different. A drill that could quickly change on the fly so you only need to take one drill to the field and change between the two with conditions could be useful (more useful for contractors and spread out farms), but it would need a very cleaver design to prevent being a flawed compromise.

Was doing it for 3 years, ww, wosr, sbeans a n wbeans in the rotation, just come to the conclusion the downsides outway the upsides and a pass with a Trio is the best money spent on the coming crop.
