Once out of warranty, a £100 chainsaw is a throwaway product. If anything breaks that you can't fix yourself, the cost to repair is likely to be near to or in excess of the price of a new one. You might think it ridiculous but that's the way it is when someone provides a skilled service and parts these days. Its a symptom of stuff being very very cheap to buy, in a high cost economy.

Fairly sure a good McCullock chainsaw was around £150 back in the 1960's, over 50 years ago.

You get what you pay for with the most things in life. The amount of abuse our Stihl chainsaws take and still work faultlessly I wouldn't use anything else

There is a pretty cheap Asian saw with a 5 year warranty… which sounds great until you read that the 5 year warranty excludes the engine and any wearing parts, so that's a 5 year warranty on the fuel tank and the frame, providing of course you can prove your use has only been "domestic" and you have your dealer service stamps.

Ps I doubt the lidl saw can be any worse than a Stihl MS211c.... :shifty:

I use to buy chainsaws like that, they always broke when I needed them. Bought a smallish stihl with a 16inch bar. Had it a few years now, a lot cheaper in the long run.

Don't forget Echo saws. These will last as long as the two well known brands with names beginning with H & S
Saying this I tried to buy a SH Echo but the fellow did not want to post it so I bought a SH Stihl 361 and rebuilt it this winter. I will be selling my smaller Stihl 211 at some point as it is too small for this years firewood. Firewood has got so much bigger as there are so few sawmills now. 24" accross is not unusual now when these used to be classed as saw-logs!
