New Self Propelled Forage Harvester for a Farmer?

Be interested to know if the TFF member talking about a reverse drive unit ever did take that plunge. I guess a high horsepower machine might make sense if you have it on a woodchipper all winter.

@Barleycorn you said earlier in the thread about regular breakdowns with the 850,is there certain areas that gave bother as we are looking at getting a self propelled
The ones that we have run are of a certain age, probably 20 years old, and second hand so you don't know their past. We had problems with the metal detectors, and found that the automatic shearbar adjusting and sharpening is best bypassed. The actual cutting mechanism, drive, spout etc are bombproof, and unblocking in the event of a blockup very easy. Like so many modern machines most problems stem from electrics.

Yep, ordered a new Claas 840, JD was a similar price, and New Holland a bit dearer, but offered a demonstrater deal. Krone not interested in quoting.
As Claas sell 1 in 2 foragers in the world, and we can fairly easily convert our wholecrop header and mill it was a bit of a no brainer.
Good choice, hope she does you well. Find the pricing a bit surprising, would have thought it would be completely the other way around

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
