Non Roadworthy Ag Vehicles

He’s paid the price as has the fatally injured lady for something many others would have risked. As they say an accident is only just around the corner. Sure he didn’t set out thinking this would happen but when it does you have zero control. Trailer must have been in a lousy state from the sound of it. Tragedy for all involved

so if you went to sale....bought an un roadworthy car and towed it home with a tractor....would that be an 'ag vehicle'

I am also struggling to know what point you are driving at:scratchhead:. A 19year old lad killed a woman (and seriously injured another) when a trailer became detached from a tractor and is now going to prison. What the hell difference does what you call the vehicle make?

i think i'm trying to say it wasn't an agricultural vehicle.....i agree that it doesn't make any difference to the tragedy.... but the thread title implies blame on farmers....as far as i can see the trailer wasn't being used for an agricultural purpose....the lad could've done a deal and been on the way to the scrapyard

In my view Ag vehicles should only pull trailers and equipment designed and certified to be used by them. They should not pull HGV type trailers on the highway anymore than HGVs should pull Ag equipment.

Larger tractors and trailers should be subject to an annual mot.

The current legislation is outdated and designed for 165s and four tonne trailers, not the current large high speed tractors and trailers.
Why should it be limited to large tractors and trailers it should be all vehicles even non road going scraper tractors , more people have had near misses scraping with a 135 with no brakes than anything else

hang on....it wasn't an ag vehicle was it....it was an old hgv artic trailer that was being towed
This is what i thought, there are so many of those old hgv trailers kicking about on farms, some with dolly,s on them and some that have been welded with a tow eye, most are unsafe and most farmers would agree there unsafe, I bet 90% would fail on a road safety check. These are the trailers that get dragged out once a year from under the hedge & nettles, straight down the road to fetch hay and straw. Every farm sale i go to there will be one of these trailers for sale, How do people get them home?

Twisted logic, you`d still be a farmer breaking the law with your tractor , whats so wrong with you that you cant accept what a judge said ?

i'm not denying that this was a tragedy or that we should be more alert careful....what i'm saying that if the trailer was straw carting and it happened it would be a faulty ag vehicle and farming should take the blame....but this wasn't being used for ag purposes...it was being transported
