Norac fannying about

Got norac UC5 boom height working thru agleader integra screen on 36m 2012 Bateman RB35.

I have a recurring issue where the booms start see-sawing up and down, each movement of the lhs perpetuates a larger one from the rhs and vice versa to the point where the “Mexican wave” gets as big that the booms will hit the crop/ground on one side whilst the other tip is 12ft above the target.

I’m spraying at between 10 and 11k, the issue is notably worse amongst crop as opposed to pre-em, but it will happen there too, usually triggered by a bump or sideland.

I normally catch it as it starts by cancelling the auto height and it settles almost immediately, plus if I spray manually the boom is perfectly stable, so I’m pretty sure it’s a norac issue.

I’ve tried various settings, it’s best in hybrid mode, changing sensitivity doesn’t seem to make any odds.

Did a retune in the yard couple weeks ago, made no odds.

Anyone any other ideas to try? I’m a complete novice with the auto height.

Thanks

I know you have it sorted and this is a different issue but sometimes in my experience , in tall crops , the middle sensor, gets confused by the crop standing up again as you drive over it ( especially beans or barley in ear ) so I quite often switch off this sensor and just set it manually and let the wing sensors work . ( you go into settings and switch off)

Thanks.

We tried this in potatoes but quite often it seems t start dropping centre boom height whilst maintaining the wing height by raising the vg, so we end up with the boom in a V.

Could understand if had middle turned on and it was over bare ground whilst outers on crop, but even with the middle turned off it seems t do it. Need to learn more about it.

Thats why I turn off middle sensor as Norac will lower middle section and as you say the wings form a V . If you turn off middle section and just lower manually to the correct height , then it just stays at that height and wings go up or down . Obviously if you have a particularly tall or short crop , you will have to manually raise /lower middle section .
Not sure if your interested or not but Bateman could upgrade your system with their BBL system and /or negative camber and its a much better system than "standard " Norac . I had your system on my 12 Plate machine [and previous machine] but now have a 19 plate with BBL and negative camber [allows outer booms to go lower than level] and would say its at least 50% better.

That’s interesting, ours is a 12 plate too. How does the BBL work is it just longer rams and a software update, or would it involve a hardware (screen) update too?

No change to screen , negative camber is same rams but inside cylinder is a spacer block which changes[smaller I think ]and they fit a chain and sensor to the gap between boom and upright [ so it knows where it is ]plus a software change . BBL is also a software change [or maybe an additional module ] and its like UC5 "plus" and is equivalent to UC7 which is Norac,s latest version .
Don t think its a secret but Jason Bateman is trying to develop his own system which will illuminate the Norac bit so will be "All Bateman "on future versions however not sure how advanced that is yet .
I think I am right in saying that you would be able to upgrade your machine even on Integra screen [ that's what I had on my 12 plate] but definitely on a" In-Command"screen which superseded Integra however no idea of cost but I would say its a big improvement.
Give office a ring and ask ???
