Grass sample taken a week ago here, not sure about the protein accuracy [emoji848]

This Oct milk will probably be the most profitable milk of the year. Grown on residual nitrogen,it's saving silage.currently averaging 24litres on 0.22kg/ litre over 4 fat and 3.3 protein. Nothing wrong with abit of Dr green. It's not about production,it's all about profit and loadsa money. I still feel the general consensus he for housed cattle on a shitload of meal with higher production for topping the charts at the next bdg meeting.
When will we learn, more milk less money, less milk more money

Aye but feed protein =more litres, more diet energy=more milk protein. Autumn grass is supposed to be low in energy. Bringing them in at night soon. Milk at 7am and 7pm. Dark both times so never get to see grass, darn hard to shift fence using your phone torch to find strong bush in hedge!

Sounds like a former life . What time do you get in the house starting milking at 7pm ?

question for those using AI services, like to use BF like inch tarquin or goonhilly james but neither are sexed. what sexed holsteins would be the least extreme or close to BF? nihao or cabriolet have been recommended.ranger looks gd but isnt sexed either.

I have cabriolets calving the second time, they're not big or strong but they are correct, teats tend to be small but we had no problem milking them. Milk quality is good too.

Is it that you need more heifers, or that you're wanting to serve less to sexed BF and more to blue?
more beef calves=more money. try and get heifers out of the good cows.which ones are the good ones is the next question?!most milk/best quality/get in calf/feet/legs.unfortunately whilst i have cows that excel in one department there is a fault with most of them. have beef men looking BR Fr x lim calves.200 at a week old.makes bull calves for export not that worthwhile

In that case take a look at Haribo, and Malox from AI services. If on BF cows, the bull calves will sell well, but more reliably easy calving than Limousin, so you get to stay in bed all night.

Does anyone have a cattle handling setup similar to that in the videos with a circular forcing pen that I could look at and see it working. I plan on putting up one and modifying another this winter but want to see one working first before I buy any steel. It doesn't have to be in NI, anywhere North of Dublin to Galway or even a bit further South.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
