My dad used to say the government needs a dam good starving. He never saw it maybe I won’t either but it’s coming at sum stage. When other countries need the food fir their own people do you think they will send it here
Couldnt agree more. But the fact remains the the economy needs the farmer. He may not pay much tax cause he spends the money rather than payin tax, but the farmer supports so many other businesses that do pay tax. Think about it why do they give us a single farm payment in oct/nov? Its so that gives us a few months to spend it all before the end of the tax year so its into all the other businesses accounts and they pay staff that pays tax and they also pay tax on thier profits. If u think about it in depth how much of the sfp goes back to the gov in tax. In 1 way or another It has to be at least 50% mabe more plus it keeps us at it to keep cheap food

So they should give us more so that we can spend more and help the economy..

We need a campaign.
They wouldnt admit that but its the way it is. A farmer is doin it for the love of the job so the money he gets goes back into the business to pay bills and buy stuf which supports the economy whereas if they gave other businesses big cheques they wouldnt put it into the business as they are business men and have the attitude the business has to stand on its own and make money and the money theyd get from the government would be shipped into an of shore account with no tax and kept as a retirement policy. Just think how many businesses is supported by farmers and all the ppl they employ and companys that they in turn support all of which pays tax at every stage. It all ends up back in the governments pockets down the line

Keep with the times man and email it to them, sent mine on Friday, returned on Monday, form completed and submitted last night. All from the comfort of the big chair in front of the fire.

I think it's an absolutely ludicrous system. If they are offering a grant on equipment which will help farms comply with coming changes to environmental regulations, then it should be transparent and open equally to all who apply. Its quite beyond belief that a department of the state is offering a grant to meet one of their new regulations, but discriminating on the basis of age, time in the industry, and educational background. I'm shocked that the Farmers Union lawyers haven't had a field day with that one. Surely it's just asking for a case to be taken?

Looks good in the headlines saying a 40% grant. Though by the time you account for the fact that a lot of the listed items have inflated beyond the guide price, that I assume was set years ago. Then discount your grant amount in the Value For Money section, which is optional but well known that if you don't, you stand zero chance of approval, you end up a heck of a lot less than the headlines suggest.

Looks like I could get 84 points if I go for full disco which is stupid. Either offer a grant or dont. I'm getting to the point they can stick it up their a#$%

What's the full discount? I discounted by about 5% but I didn't check my points total. Put in for a tanker and trailing shoe which are both band 1, but we're well below 200 LUs so will work away with the spread plate until I have to change if I don't get the grant.

What's the livestock unit calculation? Not just a headage presumably.

The local BDG had an online meeting last evening, one of the topics was changes to Nitrates etc.
Milk cows which were 91 kg of N under the old system are now 100 KG of N in the new measurement system.
If you have over 200 livestock units, Low emission slurry spreading has to be used so no splash plate etc.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
