Perfect - thanks @carbonfibre farmer, that's really helpful & clear now. Does the tractor get used for other jobs too? Just interested.

Also, do you think a DB990 would be up to pulling it? Maybe @Selectamatic would know?

The major doesn't do as much now. Mainly moving the horse muck trailer, anything to do with the link box, maybe a corn trailer occasionally. Certainly no draft work of any sort now.

@carbonfibre farmer - once again I have to apologise about digging this thread up again!

Have you ever replaced the hoe blades on your one of these? And if so, where did you get them from? From the photos, it looks to have the same side hoe blades on it as mine, rather than ducks' feet ones?
We have a stash.

In the back of an old cart shed.

That's being propped up by bits of steel channel to stop it falling down :bag:

Couple of tray fulls.

Will see me out if we use the hoe once every 5 yrs for ..... hmmmm the next 120yrs

The welder comes out to "modify and adjust" any that are worn up etc.

An eclectic mix of various old bolts holding the hoes on. From witworth to imperial. Pretty sure nothing metric on it!

I'll get a pic of the spares.

The hoe is back in the hedge.

Ours has a mix of side hoes and "A" shares or ducks feet as you call them.

Change them for every tramline to cut in better. "Precision farming:oops:"

Also some side hoes with straight bar welded for -weedier- situations.

We did have a set of discs as well and some shield tins as well.

Hmm. Thanks @carbonfibre farmer - mine has a set of discs on it at the moment but I think I'll take those off. Do you know if the side hoes are Ransomes or Fergie or something else? I look on ebay etc. and Westlake's website from time to time but can never find quite the right things.
Not sure the make of the side hoes. Being as it's a Ransome tool bar we have. I suspect ransomes.
Some of the side hoes are probably not the same make so have had extra holes put in them to make them fit.
Our discs were taken off many yrs ago. On when going very early so as not to cover the small plant.

Look at the pan Anglia and spaldings catalogues. Something will likely fit

These hoe blades are normally fairly universal and a lot to do with soil type and personal preference. Some will be deeper than others so youmay need a complete set to match. Normally, depending on crop you will need the disc openers on the first pass, as the hoe will swamp the young plants. Then you remove them on second or they will trim up the leaves. It is always better to make the second pass opposite direction to the first.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
