Open day to showcase HEAR and winter linseed trials

Written by janineadamson from CPM Magazine

Growers are invited to attend an open day in May to hear the latest results from two Scottish trial sites.

The event, which is taking place on 23 May in Glenrothes, Fife, will feature talks and presentations from Scottish Agronomy and Premium Crops.

Delegates will visit two trial sites – the morning will be the High Erucic Acid Rape (HEAR) trial site while the afternoon visit is to the winter linseed trial.

Research and development

For more than 20 years, Premium Crops has been undertaking research and development into new varieties to determine which have the most beneficial traits and characteristics.

These trials have worked towards three objectives – to test and compare the performance of new and commercial varieties, assess varieties for agronomic performance and provide clear data for customers to understand the difference in varieties for the UK climate.

Nigel Padbury, seeds and marketing manager for Premium Crops says the Scottish sites were chosen as analogues for growers experiencing some of the harshest growing conditions in the UK. “Crops that succeed in this climate are expected to prosper even more through warmer areas of the country.

“So we’re delighted to offer UK growers the opportunity to see first-hand the results of our most recent Scottish-based trials. The early results are promising and we’re excited to showcase this in partnership with Scottish Agronomy.

“Our expert agronomists will be on hand for any specific queries and we are looking forward to meeting growers from across the UK.”
