Looking at trading back a few bits of kit that we don't use anymore for a disc cultivator. We put in alot of grass after maize and one pass with one of these looks to do a decent job. Would also be used for working down maize ground. You can pick up a 3 metre one for around £2500, is this the best machine for the job? We have a New Holland T6.145, would it pull it ok?

There ok. Good job in lighter ground. Heavier ground - I suspect there are better machines. Ours has a packer roller on from an old power harrow which we prefer.
Have pulled ours with 130hp and regularly with 135hp and no issues.
I think well priced tho

Not a bad set of discs for the money and the faster you can drag them the better job they’ll do, just be warned they WILL eat bearings! We were anal with greasing them but would still end up doing 2-3 sets of bearings a year. They can also start to drag on soft land, in-fact, I wasn’t really sad to see them go?
Just bought a set of proforge inverta which are excellent discs.

Its funny that you both have had bearings issues. I have to say that I find them quite robust. Maintenance, I'm afraid to say, is perhaps not one of our strong points and we haven't replaced many in 7/8 years we have had it. Doing about 200 acres a year I would guess.
Generic bearings can be bought v reasonably, but if u dont catch one in time the housing assembly is £££.

Tbh I can't remember the last time i used them myself. I've had many a person jump on and use them for the day - some more careful than others - and I think there are a
quite robust. Also handy to take the 5 leg attachment off if needs be.

N.b I do believe there are better machines out there though.......might be more money

We be had a couple of sets of opico discs over the years at work. Honestly can’t remember changing any bearings on them except when we changed the discs when they are worn out. Which takes a while on our clay.
Not used as much in the last couple of years though as a neighbour bought a sumo and we get him in to do a fair chunk of the cultivating now.

I think we'll just get the contractor to power harrow like usual as time is against us anyway this year. I'll revisit the idea in the Autumn
