Permastore problem

Hi

Got a 3million or so litre slurry tower.

Last time we tried to empty it we discovered that the 90 bend designed to enable the last 400k litres or so to be drawn out ( as outlet is half way up first ring) had fallen off..and there wasnoway i was going in there after it.. (3 ft of slurry probably) .

So.. how do i A) empty the tower so i can find the 90 safely b) get in and out of the tower safely..

Any thoughts?

TIA

I've heard of people removing panels. Could you take the panel out above where the bend is then suck rest out with hose. You will then have access in the right place to repair bend.

Take a panel out probably simplest Our umbilical contractor got ours down with the suction hose over the top once but not without problems. Too easy to loose prime amongst others.

An uncovered tower store is unlikely to have a gas danger, especially on a breezy day ( IMO )

Anyone local with a hydraulic slurry pump?

We used to umbilical pump out of a store with a broken gate valve, used two 90degree bends over the top,no reason you couldn’t suck out with a tanker the same.

Dai double H is the one to speak with if you're going to take down the side of your tower.

He's taken panels out of my uncles tower numerous times to enable a excavator to remove sand.

First off, emptying the tower as much as possible without going in is crucial. You might need to use a powerful pump or suction system to get the majority of the slurry out, even if the 90-degree bend is missing. A vacuum tanker could help with this, but depending on the thickness of the slurry, you may need to mix or agitate it first to make it pumpable.Once you’ve got it down to just a small amount, ventilation is a must before anyone goes inside. Slurry pits produce dangerous gases like hydrogen sulfide, so you need proper airflow to ensure it’s safe to enter. Ideally, you’d have gas detection equipment to measure levels before anyone gets in.For getting in and out safely, harnesses and safety lines are essential. If you can, work with professionals who specialize in slurry tanks and confined space entry—they’ll have the right equipment and know the procedures to avoid any nasty surprises.
I have waders, a harness and a gas detector.. store is open topped so I need a windy day.. the telehandler to attatch safety line too..a spotter and a stick.. slurry level is about 3 ft..

Thankyou for advice!

We bought a 2” flexi hose that goes onto the back of the tanker to suck out the septic tank. Would something like that pushed in through the outlet allow you to get the level down another foot or so?

And horribly - hydrogen sulphide at high concerntrations has no smell, and then kills you quickly.
