We want to overhaul and upgrade our 4000 l tractor towed diesel bowser this winter. I was thinking about using a petrol powered pump to speed the job up.
I was thinking Honda power so that it will reliably start.
Anybody got any recommendations or things to avoid.

I think you can get Honda water pump inners changed to ones that are not affected by diesel oil. When contracting I remember a farmer who had, had the aforementioned conversion carried out, awesome filling speed for filling combine and his quadtrac diesel tanks.

We have a Clarke 1 inch petrol water pump on our bowser and as said about can shift a couple of 100 ltrs in a few minutes
Not sure if it has different seals in or not as it was on the bowser when we got it

We bought a 5500 litre bunded tank from a civil engineering firm that was used on various sites. It came with what looked like an old well used Honda pump ( 1") which I planned to change to electric at the first opportunity. That was perhaps 10 or 12 years ago. That old Honda has not missed a beat since and as such there is no plan to change it. A bit annoying when it conks out due to lack of petrol, but fills the combine etc at a rapid rate of knots. I will photo the engine tomorrow.

Those Honda engines are just built right from the outset. If you do buy a relatively fresh one, make sure to only run it on Shell V power petrol whilst will help resist the effects of it not being used that often. The cost difference is bugger all, I use it in all small machinery now.

Some of these pumps seem to have a 140lt/min rate, fine if filling the empty combine tank, but it would be a matter of minutes to fill a tractor. I use a 12v pump here and that seems quick enough.

Spaldings sell Piusi pumps. I have these fitted to 2 bowsers & they don't take long to fill the combine or tractors.

We run 97 octane fuel in our Honda pumps & Can Am quad. They run much better on the good stuff. V Power is 99. So is Tesco Momentum but it has less of the useful additives that you'd want in tanks that don't get much use.
