Piggy Back Beet Drill

Hi All,

Looking to buy a piggy back beet drill, 6 row , to go behind a 3m power harrow. We power harrow 99% of our beet land anyway so it will save me a lot of messing around swapping over wheels and implements ( as I only have one tractor.) Just wondering what people experiences are with mounted beet drills, do you ever have difficulty controlling depth or keeping a consistent depth? Any other disadvantages? Thanks in advance
If there are any old threads on this that I've missed please give me a link.

It was quite a thing round here in the 90s.
I've seen it done on light land with a drillmate complete with flexicoil which worked very well and I've seen it done on heavy land with a power harrow.
It would often be a compromise with the ph, if it was too dry and to fleet it would just put dry clods into the tractor wheeling and then you'd not have any beet grow in them or if the ground was to fresh and raw the drill could smear and seal the rows up or the underlying compaction in the wheelings would hamper the beet.

If conditions were right it worked well but could be hit and miss and it didn't give you the opportunity to let the ground haze off between cultivating and drilling.

The drill itself was just on a normal up and over piggy back linkage and would float and be carried in its own wheels completely Independent to the harrow.
