Thanks... still waiting for them to get back... others are saying they can't do anything for several weeks... which will take us into the colder weather when most of the protected species on site will be hibernating. I don't want to pay a grand for a report which is innaccurate. I should have done this back in May. I honestly didn't expect to be asked for an eco report just for the retention of an existing building and where no development is proposed. DxTry Arbtech
I think with 300,000 houses needed every year, we are definitely going to see more houses being built in the countryside. My area has no available building land at all and develoment is being carried out on greenbelt farmland, much of which is in a flood zone... It's not ideal. In a small country, we should be trying to keep as much farmland as possible to feed ourselves. Yet LPAs make it very difficult for people who have brownfield sites ... It makes no sense at all...
Maybe if people didn't have second homes then that would be a start. A very sensitive subject locally and one that is stopping me moving up the housing ladder and free up the affordable stock that I'm currently living in.Or we should be asking WHY we seem to need to many houses….and perhaps address that.
Unfortunately the sort of people who can afford second homes can usually afford to find a way to get around rulesMaybe if people didn't have second homes then that would be a start. It was amazing how easy it was for all of them to suddenly become businesses when the COVID grants were handed out too.Unfortunately the sort of people who can afford second homes can usually afford to find a way to get around rules
Maybe we are overpopulated... but all those houses and no infastructure won't work. We need the hospitals, roads and schools as well...Or we should be asking WHY we seem to need to many houses….and perhaps address that.

Personally I'd rather see bats protected than badgers.....Does someone know why it's all the rage to protect disease ridden bats.
Think of the poor churchgoers
Loads of houses sat empty, loads of old factory sites/waste ground doing nothing . Roads already cannot cope with the traffic without adding thousands of more cars etc etc. Small villages spoilt with massive development sites and everybody building in their gardens. 3-4 house little developments sat in 3-4acres i agree with but its getting out of hand.I think with 300,000 houses needed every year, we are definitely going to see more houses being built in the countryside. Yet, in Harlow, they've converted Terminus House, a 70's office tower, into abysmal flats under pd which aren't fit for anyone to live in......Loads of houses sat empty, loads of old factory sites/waste ground doing nothing . Sprog One works for a big Civils company and what they really REALLY hate are bloody newts. They were doing the design and overseeing of a big roads project, and a "newt" was found in the site... allegedly. That "newt" cost the build nearly £1M in delays, costs etc etc.Newts can be more difficult as you need to protect the development site so they don't encroach, you need to relocate any within the development boundary before work starts, they may even insist on a watching brief during the works.

I believe it was found be an interested member of the public....I'm surprised they found it....
