Not exactly sure what your asking for here, you would only need a free flow return if you had a spool valve on the knocker to work other services which ideally you probably do want a closed centre one with a LS feed back to the pump maybe to work nicely? other wise just a single service will do for most knockers.

Often they are too agrassive when lifting the weight though but this can be over come with a adjustable inline flow valve which also has a free flow return one way to allow the weight to drop at full speed but be more control able when lifting.

Just trying to find a way of improving or replacing what we have. if I by pass the spool on the knocker and go straight to the one on the handler it may work fine?

it will work fine like that if your only needing the one service to lift the weight, If claas like JCB have a pressured hyd tank then you can loosen the cap if needed which will help the return flow. The only thing you might want to do is add the inline adjustable flow valve like i said above IF it lifts too fast and bangs the weight up the top of mast.
