Poultry registration

Spent over half an hour this morning trying to register our hens and ducks with Defra. There is the fill in the form and email it to them option or just email them. As we have a CPH number, I expected to just tick a box "yes, we have poultry" in a form, but being Defra there are 4 pages to fill in. You are asked to find your OS map reference, but there seems nowhere to put it. At this point I was directed to a page asking to insert the code they had sent me to verify my email address, the code has 6 characters, their box only allows 5. I decided to start from scratch, but they won't let me. After having 3 codes sent to me I gave up. I don't know whether I have registered our flock or not. Unblocking drains is a greater priority at the moment .

I registered on line, no CPH number, but there was an option to include one if necessary/applicable. I found the whole process relatively quick and easy and it only took a few minutes, but... that was over a week ago now and I haven't received an email acknowledgement, despite it all having apparently gone through ok. Unusually for me, I didn't write down the acknowledgement number they provided at the end as I thought I would just wait for the email. I'm hoping it will arrive soon, otherwise I may try to register again, just to make sure. That will probably muck up their systems though. Who knows? Don't want to get into trouble for not having registered if I can't prove that I did it. 🙄

Apparently it was large-scale poultry farmers who requested DEFRA make registration compulsory for back-yard keepers. 🫤
There was already a requirement to register flocks of 50 and above.
According to @Daniel the industry was asked what number they would be happy with, they said 12 so DEFRA decided it was 1.

So is this registration for captive birds or game birds that may be in an open topped release pen.
My partridge spend a short time in runs before being released.
Father just dropped in the shooting times their article spread no light.

I think perhaps they have had more registrations than they were expecting as when I had another look at it today, their website said they are extremely busy and that acknowledgement are taking approx 30 days (I thought it said 10 days when I registered) and not to try and register again just because you haven't heard.

WTH they cannot just send an auto-email receipt they have logged your notification.... It's all that is needed.

RPA/DEFRA computer systems... again!

Don't ya love British beaucracy.

The only exceptions will be pet birds in the parrot and songbird families that are kept entirely indoors. Birds in aviaries or other outdoor cages are covered too, so even taking your budgie or canary in its cage out onto the veranda on a sunny day will require registration. By the same token, decoy birds kept in Larsen or other corvid traps are also covered, so the new rules will impinge on almost every gamekeeper.

thats what I got

what's kidds talking about sausages?
Our beloved leader made an announcement where for some reason he wanted the Israeli sausages released, slip of the tongue he meant hostages.
He has an injunction in place preventing any press/media discussion about an alleged extra-marital affair that led to him fathering a child amongst other rumours..
