I cant believe theres not more outrage amoungst English farmers, have you all been brainwashed with the run a "lean business", "be more efficient" crap the government spout, are you aware your still getting 1980s prices and the only help to bridge that gap is being stopped???

It’s been known that it’s coming for a good while now, so it only appears to be a shock to you. UK government has been pushing to move the CAP this way for years, and Gove’s intentions have been public for some time.

Don’t for one minute think that you won’t see similar, just a Scottish version of it. The Welsh government have been consulting (can it be a ‘consultation’ if you’re not listening?) on very similar plans for 12 months already.

Im angry for you, its the way they dress up the truth that annoys me
You haven’t heard what’s coming your way yet, it could be much worse!

My whole farming life we have been warned this day would be coming. I have my plans to try and weather the storm and I will support people who are actively lobbying on our behalf.
If you are distressed by government spin you are going to struggle not to have a heart attack over the coming years! It’s not a new thing by any stretch of the imagination. I suspect there will be much worse to come.
I also think this is an issue that is like a blindfold for you, you need to get over it before it clouds you judgement on how best to actually run your business as the world changes around you.

Its not a shock to me i predicted it before the brexit vote but was accused of scaremongering, the thread has been started as im still awaiting a number of apologies

The Scottish government know the end of direct payment to upland Hill farms means the end of those types of farms on poorer ground, so l would think there should be a safety net payments still, much less than now but something, headage on cows and ewes in upland areas for a start.

I don’t think anybody ever tried to say that subs, as we know them, wouldn’t be going, so what do you want anyone to apologise for?

However, I have always felt it odd that anyone believed that the UK government would be more supportive of agriculture than the EU have been. We are but a handful of peasants, who’s votes make very little difference to the career politicians we have today.

Have the Scottish government not been giving financial incentives for tree planting in those areas for several years? Incentives large enough to allow those very farms you talk of to be bought up for forestry.

What makes you think they value your presence on that land enough to subsidise it?

This is my point, the EU was great for farmers!

Us down on the poor side of the boarder never had any brains to wash, we just snuddle on

The government should give an example of an ordinary farm 300/400acre, who got say 35 grand from subs, this farm would be mostly grass and rough grazing, sheep and some cows and explain how get the same money back threw environmental schemes. Clean air, and how many hoops you have to jump threw to get it, l. Bet they haven't a clue.

They were delighted to announce that funding would be matched for the next 5 years yet if you look closely no envir payments are available until at least 2024 by which point farmers funding have already dropped substantially, talk about Misleading!!!!!!!

35 grand is a $hit ton of money however you dress it up, it’s £675 quid a week, more than most of the greater public earn and double than most on the minimum wage.

Yes, loads of sympathy for that.

We have a meeting with Defra in the next couple of weeks to discuss ELMS and the fact we are all pretty confused. Hoping to get a bit more clarity and trying to keep a positive vue until then.
Lets just say I think DEFRA have quite a bit of work to do before they will be able to clarify anything for you. I believe their timetable for rolling out ELMS is technically known as "extremely ambitious", but probably more towards the "hopelessly optimistic" end of the scale.
If they have anything coherent to tell you which actually makes it to the final scheme I'll be amazed!
