Did you manage to fix the gearbox though? [emoji23]

Yes, after a couple of months of scowling at it every time I walked past it I swallowed my pride. I replaced the dodgy gearbox actuator and got a partial interior from a breakers to replace the paint-stained bits that I couldn't clean. It still stank of cellulose thinners for about 2 years afterwards.

I actually only sold that car a couple of years ago, with a very respectable 276,000 miles on the clock.

Threw a screwdriver across the workshop when something wasn't going well, went to pick it up to find a big chunk out of the handle, one of the first set of Snap -on screwdrivers I bought when I was an apprentice, so not best pleased :(
Never did find the piece of the handle, it must be hiding with the 22mm impact socket that went awol

When I was about 15 I did throw a hammer at a set of discs once that had viciously removed the skin off my knuckles. The hammer missed the discs and put a big dent in the side of Dads Marina van.

He wasn’t best pleased
Locak farmer here in his younger days was starting a tractor with the starting handle, it kicked back & chipped one of his teeth, he took the handle & gave the tractor a good beating with it, dented every panel on it.
 
No, not touched it at all last week. We’ve made a start on the thousands of acres of sampling we have to do.

A lot going on tomorrow. I have a chap coming to extend the trailer drawbar so that reaches. He’s also finishing off the rear brackets because I’ve run out of time and sorting out air brake couplings.

Claas are coming to sort a diesel leak that appeared when I filled it brim full, looks like a crack in the tank.

Another chap coming to fit a secondary filter for the oil that lubricates something around the diesel injectors. Apparently that’s a must-do retro fit job on a Caterpillar C9, so much so that even Cat themselves make a kit. It’s £400 and when injectors are £900 each plus fitting and ECU updates it seems sensible.

I have a local tyre fitter coming to swap all three tyres on the Big A too.

Busy day.

I have bought the kit from a chap in Denmark who has done several conversions like I wanted to do for himself and other Xerion owners.

I’m told Cat can supply a similar kit. It’s a very easy 1 hour installation that we are doing ourselves. The kit cost approximately £400.
