Puncture patch problems

Why can I not get the backing off without damaging the patch?

Start in the middle
Roll it more

As you can see it sticks to the rim of the patch.
Had a different brand of patch years ago that had the backing pre cut and from memory they peeled easily.
I flex the patch before it is attached to loosen the backing and give it a bloody good rolling once attached.

Rub the patch between your hands just before you put it on, gets a good bit of warmth in the patch to help bonding plus helps the backing come off

hot air gun helps free it off if old patches and also speeds up the glue drying

and next time try Airstream products gunk.

Rightly or wrongly I have left the plastic on. It won't stick to the tyre.

7.30 on a Thursday evening, load of straw waiting to be unloaded and a flat front tyre on the loader tractor

Did that, it sticks to the rim of the patch, pull too hard and it rips the patch as you can see in the picture

Always found these patches best.

your vulcanising fluid may have gone off, I always struggle more if the gunk isn't fresh and end up with similar issues, try leaving the patch for an hour or so before removing the plastic and get a new tin of fluid for next time

get a decent patch stitch roller, got one off ebay they come off easy then only cost a few quid.

get better patches too they come pre cut as above down the middle.

I allways put patches in my trouser pocket to soften them before starting to remove the tube.this may help you too
