Putting time aside to just enjoy

Nothing nicer than taking my metal detector and pinpointer a flask of coffee and trying to locate old WW2 air crash sites !!
I am too idle to comb acres looking for coins ,although sometimes its gets a bit like that if the info is duff!

Found this on my desk when I was tidying up earlier - I believe its a bit of Pitot head from a P47 Thunderbolt that crashed in a friends field after the engine cut out during a mock dogfight over Whitchurch Shrops. The pilot baled out but this was the only part I have found yet .
Shame nearly all eyewitnesses are past now WhatsApp Image 2021-11-03 at 6.33.34 PM.jpeg

Forgot detecting as well, I have found everything from spindle whorls to medieval buttons, musket balls, coins, minnie balls etc but my fave find is a French coin from 1675, a 4 sols silver little beauty and the wondering of how it got here into our tup field. I need to get a Garrett pinpointer!

What have you been quoted & by who ?, high cube one are more than standard ones
We are using FCL global. It costs me a bit more as we don’t have a loading ramp at home so the container has to be dropped on the ground. High cubes are more expensive but obviously you can get more in and they are easy to load. We do at least two containers a year but my Dad used to organise it all now it’s my son so i thought i had better show willing and help him load it.

Well I've tried something different today .
I found out the local Chapel has been giving out food boxes to those that really need them .....not the usual cadgers!
They are very careful who gets one and seem to have been able to sort it out .
I popped down to get my haircut and the lass was telling me about it and I gave the usual reply "flopping spongers....bet they all got expensive phones and smoke 40 a day " ......No she said quite the opposite ,why don't you go and see, they are packing the boxes up now ...... so I did . ( I left my wellies outside ) .
Each box consisted of some decent quality food ,vegatebles and fruit along with a small roast joint . I would imagine the box value to be around £30 to £40
The Rev explained to me that they didn't rely on social services for recommendations but word of mouth from neighbours etc . " why don't you come along with me now" .....so I did !
.......well it opened my eyes ...
Today I saw Poverty that I've never ever seen before within a few miles of where I live !
The Rev told me they can't tell me her circumstances, and I probably don't need to know , but he assured me that she was a genuine case and when she first popped up on their 'radar' she hadnt got a clue about meal preparation etc but the good ladies from the chapel have been teaching her how to cook etc and it's made a huge difference to her lifestyle and the 2 little kiddies .
I asked him about how they finance it and he said it's all paid for by the folks who go to the Chapel .
Today they gave out 7 boxes !!!

There are genuine cases out there but you would never know unless you've seen it because all you hear about is scroungers who refuse to work.
When wife was pregnant the midwife she used to go and see was asking if we had anything spare we didn't need because she sometimes had women in that for whatever reason (usually split with a partner and/or couldn't work because of being pregnant or looking after a baby or no maternity pay or family to help) couldn't afford basic things like nappies or clothes to look after their babies.
It takes time to get them onto the benefits they need and they often don't know what they are entitled to until they speak to social services especially if they aren't friends with the usual scroungers you always hear about.

Watching dogs - cockers, springers, terriers, hounds, lurchers, sheepdogs - any working dog really (even labs!) - especially if you trained them yourself. Even better in the wonderful countryside we are so privileged to enjoy in lots of Britain.
Aside from my wife & watching my own kids develop (he hastily added, since you never know ;) ) nothing on this planet has given me more sustained enjoyment than dogs(y)

Same here. I have become keener again since lockdown and although each outing might only turn up one curiosity of interest, after a year or two you can accumulate an astonishing variety of finds. :)
Should add pub quizzing, old farm stuff and helping Mrs F with her Dartmoor sheep as well.
