@Bobthebuilder I like the @bodge,@ the amount of rust suggests it took a while to get round to it - I notice the unusual shininess of the bolt....

Own up to this! is not a bodge but a fully planned almost proper engineering fix :)
sheep in field with trough, shepherd goes through gate next to trough every morning while looking the stock, no rain of any amount here for a few weeks, i go in to sow field next to it and first thing i notice is puddle around trough so on closer inspection see water pi55ing out the side so god knows how long it's been like that and not been spotted

Ah, but I bet the shedherd could spot a sheep at only 90% from 400 yards.

Doing some posh railings that are going to cost the punters a small fortune... So I thought I'd better put the effort in to clean the scale off them so the paint doesn't fall off in a month or two. Loads of 40x10 which is a pain to put in the vice to use the 9" grinder on (flat of the disc doesn't make gouge marks) and way too slow to use the 41/2 inch... So made a magnetic holder...

two magnets with the first bar of each batch left on top of them as it was difficult to get them on and off directly onto the magnets without getting your fingers trapped between the bar and bench (or bar and magnet

) works a treat! Put a bar at 90 degrees on to the holder one in the middle and twist it round.

Has anyone come up with a bodge for when that stupid plastic thing on top of the ball cock snaps off. We have several that are aiming the water up at the top of the service box (where occasionally fitted) because I think the cows love the crunchy texture and they are over like a shot if you take the lid off.

Does anyone even know what the bit is called in case (in extreme desperation and lack of a suitable bodge) I have to buy new. Is it even possible to get them?

I’ve cut a bit of plastic and zip tied it around the ball vslve to direct the water off the lid before

Used a bit of rubber hose jubilee clipped on before

Posh railing manufacturing today. Needed a former for some of the sections

CAD drawing to get the radius needed

a bit of heat from the firey furnace...

Did the long sweeping part first, then heated the other end and locked the bar down for the tight one

I'd made a former for a guy who wanted to steam wood for making bits for his yurts, I'd been making something else at the time using a toggle action so had an idea of working it into the design. It worked great so I copied it (crudely) for this

Got the first bits done, the others are double versions of these, up then back down again.

Its the weekend, the cows have come in and the steering rod has dropped off the scraper tractor.

So grabbed an old length of electric bungee cord, wrapped it round a few times and it now looks like it will last for the winter! :)

Alternatively, drop the ball out, put it back in the socket and weld a big washer on the cup to keep it in ;)

Proper bodge is to get a bit of silage wrap and pull it firmly through the hole, trimming a bit off and letting the water pressure do the rest. If still leaking bend the ballcock arm further down.
