As my job gets me on farms over a large area of the uk I hear all sorts of farming terminology, in some places I could do with someone to translate.
The thing that stands out for me is the name's used for the shortening workings on an angled side of a field, in south lincs we call them gauze, I wonder how many names there are over the country, I have heard them called (and sorry for the spellings) gearings, goreings, gairings, pikes, pikings, scoots, skeats and probably more that I don't recall.

We call it 'short work' around here.

So what do you call the things that are on the front and back of trailers to stop bales falling off (usually little bales if you can remember those things).

In North Pembrokeshire they were called a "cretch". Whether this is derived from Welsh I doubt.

A Cretch was originally the Tail-Gate on a Gambo.

Interestingly a Cod Piece on Old Fashioned Trousers were known as "Coppis Cretch".

I only remember one person wearing them. A Button either side, and then they front hinged down like a Tail Gate.

Gormers fit on each end of rully to stop sheaves/bales falling off.
Rully is a hay/straw trailer with a turntable that runs on shears.
When i was a lad "PATRICK" rullies was the common name for them.
