Any idea how to make a big one? Something you could sit just inside a tree line to 'harvest' the flies stopping them from bothering livestock?..
Get a tubby bucket put small holes in the lid put something horrible in there jam might help as put the lid on and hang up. A man down the road uses jam jars with jam and water small holes in top to catch wasps round his apple trees quite successful I think.

Try fish blood and bone as bait... that’s what the red top traps look like they have as bait, and I guess it would attract flies when mixed with warm water to activate it initially :hungover:

We had a trap which as well as flies caught loads of beetles, whether they were in there eating the flies, or just attracted by the smell I don't know. Luckily they were still alive so we let them go.

On a different topic, was tyding up some ewes yesterday and found one struck on the tail, I think a bit mucky from lambing, a bit of a surprise when its been frosty several mornings in the last week.

Yeah but would it actually work as an alternative to spraying gallons of Pour on, on sheep?

If making DIY ones you need the cone effect like the redtop has, with entrance at lowest point, a flat lid and they will just crawl around on it till find way out.
