A old farm house near us has just been rented out for £1700 month . Apparently there was a lot of interest in renting it . Its an impressive looking house with 5 large bed rooms and small out building that would garage a car . A previous owner told me it cost a fortune to heat when oil was 20p/l
Chatting to Mrs YL we were supprised that anyone would pay such a rent for and old fuel hungry house. Then in todays Yorkshire Post there is a grand house to rent near Skipton for £9.5k month on a 5 year term

Saw a 5 bed edge of the Cotswolds house that’s rented out for 8k/month, madness.
One next door here, they rent it out for £4,300 week, was fully booked up last time I had a nose on their website.

Looks very grand from the front but is in fact a fake front and from the back is just a normal large house.

I think I best rent the barns out!!

Back in the 1970's my parents rented a house in bournemouth each summer for a week while the retired couple who owned lived in a caravan outside the town, they had lost all their savings when the Argentinian was taken over by the government so rented their house out all summer

We pay £1,400 for a 2 bedroom cottage in West Sussex, this is in a village mind. Our landlords recently rented out a rural 5 bedroom house for £3,200 a month. Whilst safe and clean they aren't exactly super modern high-tech residencies.

People offering high rents cos they have sold their house.
Thats the first sign of house price collapse
There's some folk who had that theory of sell to rent 20 year ago and the the job just kept tootling along with no crash and houses propped up by gov, and the cash has gone on rent and inflation has eaten some of what was left and got no chance of getting back to where they were.

Late 90s, a couple moved into a cottage in the village. They'd sold a very nice house, paid out the mortgages for their son and daughter, 18 month's rent for the cottage paid, nice holidays etc. Then told the social they were skint and had the rent picked up for them.
Smart or...?
