There must be thousands of gems which are worth sharing.

For those of you who can recall Sir Alec Douglas Home - or Lord Home:

His manager - Andrew Morrow, on his Angus and Douglas Estate in Lanarkshire, and after a period of heavy rain and during a visit by Sir Alec, advised ''If M'Lord ever disposes of all or part of your Estate, you will have to sell it by the gallon''.

My Grandad's sayings:

"Nothing that's easy ever lasts"

"You'll never compete with someone who doesn't realise they're going out of business yet"

My pre-college employer

"One boy is one boy, two boys is half a boy, three boys is no effing use at all"

Ex FiL

"The difference beween a good farmer and a bad farmer is often 24 hrs"

"Neglect not thine opportunities"

Me to my 2 boys in the mid to late eighties when they were about 15 to 17 ish and bearing in mind that they were not living with me and therefore not growing up on the farm like farmer's sons: "If I'm lucky, this farm will just about get me to retirement, go off and be a yuppie and get well paid for it"

Although I could have easily retired earlier I kept the farm going until I was 73, and the kids, including my daughter all went to university. They've all done extremely well.

My farm, less some of the buildings has been added to my next door neighbour's place proving the point that it was not big enough.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
