Sanderson 725c 1995

Hello to all thanks for any reply’s

ok so I have just bought a Sanderson 725c 1995

1st ...... I think it’s a Perkins Can any one tell me how to find out it it’sa ford or Perkins

2nd it’s a 4 speed manual with a shuttle on the stearing colum

it starts up fine no smoke lifts like no problem at all

however when u lift say 2 tones and ask it to drive somewhere like up a tiny hill or over a bump it will just sit there definitely more in forwards gear than back u have to drop the load and push your back over the mud to free ground to drive it .

At this time no matter how hard you push the Excelerator pedal the engine revs will not increase if you take it out of forwards or reverse with the shuttle on the steering column and rev the engine revs will shoot up as soon as you put it back into gear i.e. forwards or reverse position the engine will no longer Rev hi until at least you’re moving at speed say 5 to 10 kmph

it has a gear stick that I have in the forward position I am assuming this is the lowest gear because the problem is worse in the rear position i.e. closer to the back of the machine

It also only move when the gear stick is fully forward or fully back I suspected it was a 4 gear box I’d this correct

basicly we are a small wood yard with not a lot of money and my dad is a mechanical engineer however not that much on desil engines but we have a lot of knowledge just need to get an idea what to look at to at least work out the problem then find out if we need help or we can do it our selfs

thanks again from Dave the wood

These are the only photos I have of the truck

the ones with the we small hole is the breather cap next to the soliniod block in the torque converter and the curved pipe is the filler point for the atf oil this is sitting 1 inch below the level of the top of the bent pipe

The gears are a conventional H pattern so are you using 3/4 instead of 1/2? Great Exportations can probably source you a manual. If there seems to be sufficient fluid in the torque converter maybe replace the filter on the top?

Perkins probably non turbo.

Check the oil lever of transmission to the very top of that bent tube with engine running.

Also the drop box is a separate oil level.

And as said you may be using gears 3 and 4. 2nd is the only gear you need in yard.

Very tidy looking machine you got ?. I have a JCB 520 50 also fitted with a Perkins 1000/4 .
If it's fitted with the same gearbox here is a photo of the gear shift pattern

I'd say your using it in 3rd and 4th gears. From memory 1st is left and forward 2nd is left and back. Is the gear linkage free??? can you move the lever left and right like a conventional neutral position something could be jammed meaning you can only select the two right hand gears eg 3rd and 4th.

Another tip when you are using the machine:do not lower the boom with carriage rolled right back against the stops. The small rams at the back are the compensating rams that level the carriage. When fighting against the stops you can break the rams.

If like our 1994 Sanderson 246 H pattern gears. Stick to right gives 1 forward 2 back. Stick to left gives 3 forward 4 back. We normally only use 3. Use 4 on the road and 2 for delicate precision work. 725 is on 24" wheels, instead of 20", so gearing might be different and 2 is used more.
As mentioned, check fluid levels and filters. When our old 247 died the transmission would only work in reverse., ditto an old JCB 3C .
Great Exportations are very helpful. 01666 500094

Welllllll thanks so much to everyone that helped me there ever suggestions was amazing clear info and god dam do I feel better now have been worried about this for a week now not getting sleep ect and you know even if it’s not the wrong gear it so nice to know that folk will help is .
My dad is an engineer of 50 years a proper professional but all hos work was for atlas copco on air compressors so we have a lot of skill at hand but not a lot of knowledge about hydraulic or desil engines

I’ll try playing around with the gear lever this afternoon and let you all know how I get on

Yeh it’s a tidy old machine it’s been fully refurbished but the chap we bought it off so exspect es it to be in resonable condition. Ie the thought was it was worth painting it might be actually be mechanically sound and worth painting it has had a full bead blast before painting and quality paint was applied

If it’s just me in the ring gear next step is to replace all the filters and oils ect I believe with proper servicing it should last for years hopefully

thanks again

I have a 625, gears are right forward - 1, right back - 2, left forward - 3 and left back is 4th. Most of the time mine is in 2, maybe 3 if travelling across a flat field with little or no load, 4th is for road work.
Also as stated earlier, do not lower boom with carraige crowded right back, blew the top off one of my compensator rams.

They are great wee machines cheap and cheerful I’ve got a 624 with a Perkins engine there’s a small filter at the back of the injection pump which is usually blocked so makes it feel like little power if you blow it out make big difference. In mine first gear is right forward and and second back hopefully that helps?

Did you try different gear lever positions ?

Helllo yes I did and how much better it is now it moves when I accelerate and is very responsive I’m so bloody happy it was a great day we moved like 15 2 tone pallets and levelled the floor and we will put em all back in tomorrow in a big stack like the photo below

thanks to all that helped me all the answers and tips are great

keep the tips coming it’s so useful to gane knowledge from people I believe it might save the world you know the free share of information

any hoooo on to replacing all the filters and oils and then make the breaks work . Not looking forward to that one I can tell u . I e looked at a few other folk asking help on the forum about the breaks on these they sound like a bugger with 3 servos ect and buy the look of to many moving parts for my liking lol

Thanks again folks I’m sure I’ll be back again very sorry
