Scanning

Haven't seen any results recently, so I thought I'd drag this one up again.

Scanned the March lambing pedigree flocks yesterday, with mixed results. Charollais ewes scanned OK at 176% whilst the 7 Beltexes managed a meagre 129% (but all in lamb at least). Not many ewe lambs covered in 2 cycles, and the 17 in lamb are mostly singles (those ewe lambs normally scan at 170% or so, which is obviously too high).

Conception rates from the 2 ET programs we've done have been exceptional though, with only 6 embryos not holding from 68 implanted! Great results, but just wish I knew why so I might be able to replicate it.:scratchhead:

When are you lambing the charolais mate? I scanned some ewes last Friday, far to many triplets and singles and % down 3-4% overall.

368 Mules scanned today.
99 shearlings at 161% , inc 4 geld.
269 two shears + at 191% , inc 9 geld.

Too many geld which I have a feeling may well be to do with poachers and associated dogs causing real problems in early November.
Not as good as last year , however they were severely thinned out in March and April !.

Did our texel x ewes today due 1st April. Roughly half are shearlings. 200 scanned 162%.

4 triplets
120 twins
73 singles
3 geld

Would have preferred 170% but happy with the number of geld ones.
I’d take that! Somehow I’ve got 15.8% triplets and 27% singles  there’s only 1 type of bucket the triplets will get

Charollais & Beltex all due from March 1st. Most of the Beltex held to AI for that date, apart from 2 that were ET donors. Charollais all took the ram quickly & held, apart from the ewe lambs. A dozen recipient ewes lambing with a Beltex lambs on Feb 1st, just so I don’t get out of practice. :D

All the (Highlander) recipients that turned are scanned for twins. I’m cautiously hoping that’s a sign for the main Highlander flock to be scanned later......

As a result of a couple of good flushes, and good conception rates from the implanted embryos, I’ve counted 40 pure Beltex lambs due.:nailbiting: A few more than planned, but hey ho.

Our April flock are normally scanned mid-February, although he was talking about end of Jan the other day. I had him picking out numbers on the dozen due on Feb 1st yesterday, just to challenge him though.:D

Yes very early for us. Usually end of January then into February for the hoggs most years. Was surprised when they got in touch to see if there was any they could do, I believe they had a gap to fill on the way home from other jobs.
