Scour checks

I've done a scour test on a calf this morning. The herd is vaccinated for rotavirus but do I need to bother.
Ive seen a vaccine for cryptosporidium just come out this last few days. Seems pointless vaccinating for rotavirus if we havent got it.
I'm going to ask the vet whether we can try the cryptosporidium vaccine

Or maybe the rota vaccine is working? The crypto vaccine looks promising but the cow does need 2 doses in the first year, then annual boosters.

It would more than pay for itself if it did work. All year round calving here and no matter how hard we try it's a battle with crypto
We have problems with it in our sucklers too. I’m seriously considering the vaccine although at the moment cost and wasting vaccine may prohibit us using it.

My vet told me the crypto vaccine was approx £7 a skite. Halocur works out approx £5/calf. There's also a generic one out now that's even cheaper. I know it doesn't work for some but I think I'll stick to halocur. It works for me.

Halocur works well here but I don’t have much luck with the rotavirus vaccines for some reason. Get plenty of rotavirus scour despite my best efforts.
