I think the birds are having a hard time of it, lots of activity around our garden and seed feeders and we put water bowls out, too. Seems to busier than I would expect for the time of year.
They are hungry and numbers of them have increased to unsustainable numbers.
Local nature reserve normally gets a licence to kill so many to prevent them predating eggs and chicks of endangered species. However Defra won't issue any licences.

I can never understand how I wont see a land gull for ages yet I only need to plough the first furrow of a field and suddenly I've got half the world's population chasing me. I hate them taking all my worms. Mowed for silage yesterday and had half a dozen hovering right behind the mower waiting to pounce on any small mammals.
