Second cut hay

Just taken a cut of hay from some rented grassland. Not great quantity but good quality. Is it worth putting some N on it and hoping the weather works with us for a second cut?

Quite new to making hay as you may have guessed!

Thanks

will it not be hard on the pasture taking 2 hay crops and your landlord may not give you the grass another year if on seasonal let and gossip travels for letting grass from future landlords

Lots of places further north still wondering if they will get bulk for first cut. I'd put some NPK on to redress some of the offtake and go for a second cut.
I get what folk say about removing nutrients from rented ground but surely you rent to make a profit? If you were to let grass you must surely expect it to be used hard. Lots of grass auctioned here with the owner telling how much fert' applied before it's let and many who will spin on more mid season included in price.
if @JezzaB76 is prepared to fertilise the land he rents it is possibly more than others would do.

Two reasonable crops will be a lot better than one monster crop, both for the land and the quality of the hay. I'd put some NPK+S on, do a rain dance and hope you get a decent spell of weather when the grass is ready to cut.

no different to those dairys taking 3 maybe 4 cuts of silage through season on rented ground , a lot let like that around here , only different in that it needs more drying . some of best hay we ever made was in october one year young grass and 3 days sun and strong drying wind
