1. Farmers, growers, processors and industry representatives are being asked for their views from 31 August for 10 weeks on the role of the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB).

The AHDB is a UK statutory levy board, funded by farmers, growers and others in the supply chain. As we leave the EU, there is an opportunity to ensure that the sectors that the AHDB covers are as competitive as possible. This review will look at the AHDB’s purpose and priorities, its strengths and where improvements need to be made.

This is a joint 10-week exercise covering England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The request for views will close on 9 November.

I cant believe I didn't think of this before.

Our business relies on the ability to sell to farmers. We are only a couple of years old and very open to new ideas.

    So my question.....

What is the most effective way to sell to a farmer? and what is the most original way you have seen?

  2. Offer unlimited credit seems to work...........

  7. Build contacts over time and maintain relationships. Business follows in time.

ALWAYS do what you say you will.

I think it used to take a few visits before you were recognised and became a 'contact'.

    Answer three questions:
    1. What does it do?
    2. Show me one working.
    3. Is it worth the money?

For all selling - not just farmers.

Get back to people, made several inquiries at recent show to replace equipment not one call back!

Why waste our time taking address, number ect

New machinery rep - drove through farmyard - made a list of all the equipment he could see - phoned up for an appointment and gave me a quote for wearing metal on cultivation equipment and other spares we might need for our tractors. I thought it was very effective and straight to the point.

    Reply to feckin enquiry.
Re doing a cubicle shed this year and contacted 3 firms for prices on fixtures.
    Not a dicky bird back.
Chased them up today, was promised call backs. Nothing:mad:.

I'm sure it's just agriculture that's like this as we are replacing the doors on the house as well.
Had people out, doors measured, new ones chosen and quotes given from 2 firms inside 48 hours.

The web link at the bottom of his post might be a bit of a hint.

  15. don't have to be fit, just charming and polite, but most of all know the product they are selling inside out, back to front, and top to bottom, and can give a very good answer to all questions, yet not trying to be clever or pushy, no low cut tops as the customer will not be thinking about the product,
oh and get her to follow up after the sale even if paid for, if not then to collect the money if not paid
