Calling all youngstock enthusiasts! We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented individual to optimise youngstock health and performance through expert management and cutting-edge practices. Based at our client’s facilities in the West Midlands, the Senior Calf Rearer will play a pivotal role in the successful rearing of calves from birth to weaning, applying their expertise and hands on experience to manage the daily health, nutrition and welfare of a large calf unit. Adopting best practices and maintaining high standards, you'll tackle daily challenges and drive continuous improvements in calf care. Role Responsibilities:
- To manage and deliver the daily calf routine; feeding, vaccinations, health checks from day old to weaning
- To monitor the health and performance of the calves, undertaking regular health checks and taking corrective action when required
- To ensure calves are housed in clean and comfortable environment that promotes optimum health
- To implement and follow strict protocols and biosecurity measures
- To develop and oversee the feeding programmes to optimise calf health and performance
- To manage and maintain accurate and up to date records to monitor performance and ensure targets are achieved
Essential:
- Proven experience in managing youngstock
- A strong understanding and knowledge of calf rearing protocols and key performance measures
- Highly organised with excellent time management skills
- Strong problem-solving abilities with the ability to resolve challenges with positive outcomes
- Excellent attention to detail and the capacity to maintain accurate records
- Proficient IT skills, confident in using farm management software
- Good communication skills
- The ability to work collectively as a team
- Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual tasks
