Setting resin fixing bolts.

I'm not sure if there's a thread / posts on it but how do you/how thorough are you at cleaning the hole out for the resin use. ?

and is drilled hole size critical like with ordinary fixings?
I like the idea but am new to the practicalities of the job.
TIA.

The stuff I used we simply blew the dust out of the holes we drilled, the resin had some sort of "grit" in it and we where fixing some stainless threaded bar in the holes the grit sort bound it in before the resin went hard worked a treat.
it probably does not all have that grit in it but it was very simple to use

We use resin anchors a hell of a lot, Hilti HY270 is my go to for just about all things.

The mixing nozzles are a work of art !.

Hole size is not critical but too small and there's not enough contact area with the resin.

We usually float about 10mm to 20mm greater diameter than anchor being installed for up to M16.

You're also wanting a good bite into the sidewalls by the resin so if the hole is pre-formed or diamond cut you may need to rough the edges an old masonry bit does it.

Cleaning out is important so the resin bonds to side walls and not the dust.

We use the below pairing, simple and works well.

Use resin a lot, always brush and blow out holes. If you need to drill into hollow blocks or right through something then use the plastic sleeves that holds the resin in the hole(bigger hole needed) as the resin will just get pushed through by the stud otherwise. Could try the wind in concrete anchors as an alternative?

Thanks all good advice (y)

This afternoon first time using and it went off quicker than i thought ruined nozzle:banghead: too quickly to do others with it.

i like it mind you, nice reliable precision positioning of the bolt .

I use it for a few bolts at a time - bolting down farrowing crates when the leg bottom has worn off mainly.

I don't use a nozzle, they are no good in an hour let alone next week. Just a 6 inch nail and a bit of cardboard to mix it on, use the nail and the stainless bolt (bit of stainless studding) to push it in the hole.

14mm hole and 12mm studding does for me - I bought a box of proper bolts for the job once and it said this on the side.

Use an old bit of wormer-gun pipe to blow the dust out and away you go.

not avery big one i shouldn't think, i very much doubt if they would be strong enough :unsure:and proper hold down bolts are 2 together with the extra metal work concreted in to hold them.

there are many types for all types of job glass tube, sausage bags, mastic type tubes , under water type , cold weather type ,,, but cleaning the hole i always find one off the most important jobs , espiecally if they are to be load pull tested after wards , the hole size needs to be bigger than the stud to give the resin somewhere to work ... in the winter a little blow torch to warm up the stud a little before using it just to help the resin go off a little quicker(y);)

how big a building could you hold down with these?

You would be surprised at what can be achieved. The pitfall of the system is that it relies on the installer following manufacturer procedure to the letter. If this isn't done- holes not properly cleaned, concrete too green etc they won't stand by the anchor or the consequences of a failure. A very good get out of jail card if you will. HD bolts with a washer plate where there is a positive connection to the concrete foundation do not tend to suffer with this "grey area".
