Sewage is poisoning our green and pleasant land

What on Earth does the BB, in it's eternal wisdom, suggest is done with the stuff then?
That's not their problem any more than our cow and pig slurry is anyone's problem but ours. Since we farmers are very much held to account for any pollutant, the water and sewerage companies should be held to at least the same account. Indeed being that is their main business rather than a consequence of their main business, perhaps they should be held to a far higher standard than individual micro-businesses that are farmers.

Yet they get away with blatant and gross discharges of toxic waste on a very regular basis at multiple sites.

Its not the water/sewerage companies that need to be held to account, its the producer of the sewage, ie the public. The polluter pays is the principle, or so we are told when farmers are in the firing line, so make it apply to everyone. Yes, the water companies are getting away with discharging effluent into the sea etc, if they couldn't the public would have to pay far more to dispose of it. If it costs billions to dispose of the public's effluent properly then they are the ones who should have to pay for it.

With respect, I pay my bills to the water company. They are taking payment for taking the sewage, therefore my concern, interest or liability for it ends the second it goes down the drain.

"It also found evidence microplastics were present in the fertiliser and raised concern that repeated applications over many years could pollute the land and render it unsuitable for agriculture."

What a load of utter cretinous stupid journalism.

There's tonnes of plastic, metal, rubber, batteries, clothes, toys etc in recycled compost.

The common factor in all of these "Recycled" materials is the fact those doing the recycling are no good at doing it. The EA should have been on top of this 10s of years ago.

Still, they'll always blame someone else.

Regardless, most of it gets dumped in the sea.
