Short of silage.

We have some land away from the farm that we can take on that has nothing in , if we were to plant some spring triticali in it now , what would be the chances of cutting it for silage in October/November .

Forage rye may be a better choice , but seed is very short.

How about westerwolds or irg or mix of both, ive noticed recently with ours it seemed to germinate and come on in lowish moisture...when other things are'nt quite so keen..

Italian or westerwolds probably your best option or rye as mentioned earlier.
Oats could also be used if available

I planted some triticale straight off the combine last day of August a few years ago, DD with Horsch CO4, by mid November it was definetly worth wholecropping, I think from memory waste height.

If I had the seed I would go for it. Things are currently growing better than I can remember.

Any cereal sown now isn’t going to have any decent grain, without which whole crop silage is just belly fill. Westerwolds sown now will give a cut of far better quality feed, but depends what the op wants to feed with it I guess.

Personally I’d be putting westerwolds in, then take another early cut off it in the Spring (if you have nothing to graze it in the winter), before drilling the triticale then.

I have no idea but just a,few comments. The recommended end date is the 30th of May so only a Month over if you go quick . And I've seen spring barley make a crop out of the back of the combine in September,
