Should I Roundup my barley stubble?

Through one thing and another, I did not spray my winter barley this year, and sorely regret it now.

The plan is to rip up the stubble and sow some stubble turnips / kale / rape etc

The field is covered in weeds, allsorts.

Question is, should i spray it off, kill it all, or is it a waste of time as the harrows will destroy the weeds I see anyway?

Yes. I would definitely spray the stubble off but it would depend on the kind of weeds and what size they are. I may reduce the rate accordingly if they are small.

If you bury a collection of weeds that are capable of coming back up from rootmass, they will be immune to many autumn herbicides.

I'd spray off and sow the turnips.....ploughed for ST before....no huge advantage on the growing aspect and leaves the ground soft for grazing sheep if it comes wet

I agree, don't see any advantage to ploughing for turnips. They grow like weeds even if just broadcast and harrowed in. Had a client who did exactly that, he even used to throw a modest dose of chicken muck on first as well. Need to get away from this fascination of burying things. Roundup it and drill a day later.

Wanting to spread them with the fertiliser this year...to speed things up after a light cultivation... any easy/ novel ways of mixing the turnip/rape seed evenly-ish with the fertiliser... about 50 acres to do
