Silage sheet covers

What does everyone do sheet wise on their silage pits? We use on a 13.5 x 22.5 pit new side sheets that both cover the entire width when pulled over so 16 x 30s as side sheets then a new top sheet usually a 14 x 30 and a reused sheet on top giving us 4 layers then touching tyres. Think it could be a tad overkill but after working on farms, (ag college was the worst) where the entire top 1m of the pit was just tipped away as was like muck i swore i would never have that.

Have tried silostop sheets i think they are called, yellow underneath and black ontop, seemed good but 3 times the price of normal black sheet.

I am a bit paranoid about clamp waste - but with silage at say £35/t, you need to be especially when you consider a tonne of waste was two tonnes of silage!
I have to live with sleeper walls which have rusty old nail heads from the days of tacking on plastic hundredweight fertiliser bags. This is where I get waste if any as the sheet cags on the heads right on the shoulders - we now only get half a dozen small pockets but still annoying.

WE put new black plastic sheet and sotrafa cling film sheet on the walls. When we cover over, we fold in the side cling film, then a new cling film over the whole surface. We fold in the black side sheet and then a new black top sheet (thicker than normal). Secure covers and silage mats around the sides and across joins.

We open up again to put 2nd cut on top so when sealing again we follow the same procedure, except that in our experience, the cling film can very easily get punctured and so rather than risk it, we put the first cut cling film sheet back on, but then put a new one on as well, followed by black plastic, secure covers and mats.
Iknow some will go apoplectic at the cost and extra work but on 1000 tonne clamps we get only 3 tons of waste a year. Most of our silage is 12ME+ top quality fodder and organic so worth looking after - at around £300 for the extra ling film plastic it doesnt look expensive when that equates to saving just 8.5 t of silage to pay for it. My opinion anyway.
