You forgot to take the standard TFF measuring stick! Why’s it worth (standing straw)? View attachment 892797View attachment 892798View attachment 892799What sort of tonnage is likely? Going to auction tomorrow a fair way from me but nice Spring barley.
Would it do ton half , more likely a ton . Lot of barley only doing a bale to the acre ?You forgot to take the standard TFF measuring stick!
SB at auction made £70/acre last night, and it wouldn't have been as good looking as that. It was about 2ft high
Is that Guth ( the measuring stick I mean ).You forgot to take the standard TFF measuring stick!

Who told you that ,How odd. A lot of winter crops got written off and replaced by spring crops that suffered badly in the drought ( or at least mine did anyway )
And yet we seem to have record breaking straw yields...... ?
People on a farming forum....Who told you that ,
no , Sid carries a tape to measure other folks cropsIs that Guth ( the measuring stick I mean ).
No one knows how the straw job will pan out . They are talking bull poo if they think they do . I've seen good Crops poor crops and no crops at all , how can anyone know how that will yield in Bales . I hazard a guess that the price will drop in 3weeks, if we get some decent weather. But that's guessworkPeople on a farming forum.... [emoji23]
having not grown sp barley for years ( got some this year)one of the reasons among others was the yield of straw was however good the crop , always straw yield was below that expected, looked like, hoped for or actually ended up with . Has anything changed over the years?Whats it worth (standing straw)? View attachment 892797View attachment 892798View attachment 892799What sort of tonnage is likely? There is a lot of spring barley on east sussex downs and dont look to bad . Hardly seen it before this yearhaving not grown sp barley for years ( got some this year)one of the reasons among others was the yield of straw was however good the crop , always straw yield was below that expected, looked like, hoped for or actually ended up with . surely a rough idea can be gauged from walking the crop as to how many tons ,as for bales thats in the lap of the baler, operator and shape .For what its worth im thinking our best crops of ww will yield in grain around or slightly above average ( not enough of them here)though the straw will be below same with the wb but the poorer crops both ww and wb ( of which I have some)will be down on both .As for sp barley yield of grain will be below wb and so will straw so that tells me that straw availability from our crops over the farm will be down and thats not taking into account the none straw crops in the ground, as for price a lot depends on the weather and the rush to get sown again this backend which will influence if the the chopper is switched on as much if not more than the price of straw in the swathNo one knows how the straw job will pan out . Not quite but i do measure against myself and gauge standing straw and forage crops i am looking to buy. When you walk lots its easy to forget what was where and how it looked.no , Sid carries a tape to measure other folks crops
