After new skid steer , run a old Daewoo which has been brilliant .
After something reliable easy to wash down and good back up , obviously bobcat are the go to machines but lots of others - Gehl, case etc any advice on good or bad bits be well received ta

I don't think Kubota are sell skid steers over here yet.

I had look at Gehl last time I swapped my bobcat but for equivalent power it was a much bigger machine and we need something quite compact. Otherwise it seemed a good machine. Manitou are Gehl painted red.

I've got two old LX565 NH skiddies, both now approaching 7000 hours, which have been excellent machines and still are. The latest machines are jam packed with electronics and emission control crap though and even the dealer says to hang on to my existing machines. I strongly suspect that all current production machines are similarly loaded with non-productive and troublesome crapanolla.

I’ve just got a case sv185 to replace a Thomas 175 Only done 160 hours and so far I’m loving it 2speed on the button and boom suspension has Halfed time spent Driving up and down the yard And parallel lift is a lot better for unloading trailers stacking bales ect

Most things with engines are these days. Just imagine if you rid modern car and SUV engines of their power sapping electronic emission controls. Wouldn’t be good for the environment but think of the extra umph you’d get!!!

Today's engines seem to me more woomph-intensive than ever before. Whenever did you see 2.0 four cylinder diesel engines turn out nearly 250hp at 4000rpm and 500Nm at 1700rpm while propelling a 2 ton automatic 4x4 vehicle to 62 in under 7 seconds while easily doing 38 to 40mpg before relatively recent emissions regulations?
Back in the early 2000's a three litre state of the art BMW straight six of 135hp would struggle to better than 30mpg and that had common rail and some crap fitted. Back to 1990 and a two ton manual transmission Range Rover [two ton weight] with a sloth-like wheezy noisy 112hp would do 26 and get to 60 in about 13 seconds.
Back to 1983 and a 67hp naturally aspirated Land Rover Defender [110 actually] would also do about 26mpg driven gently, which was virtually impossible given the totally inadequate power to weight ratio, and would get to 60, given a long enough downhill run.
So give me today's engines for performance and fuel economy and refinement any day of the week. The only thing that worries me in the slightest is their long term repair costs. However, even worrying about that is a sign of old age creeping up on me, because my father harped on about quality and longevity decline since the middle of the 1960's that I remember, and probably for a decade or two before that.
