Smoking Policy

Smoking is banned here, in tractors, vehicles or anywhere within the perimeter of the yard.

Why anyone continues so smoke is beyond me!

Apart from the obvious health issues the sheer cost cannot be sustainable!

Fags are what £10 a packet so 20 a day is £70 a week around £300 a month and about £3600 a year!

That’s a lot of money! Gone up in flames!!!!

That’s just nuts!! 2-3 years of not smoking would buy a half decent new car!

10-15 years of not smoking would buy a half reasonable buy to let property which would earn money.

You wouldn't be buying them over the counter at that they'd be roll ups

All that said, money is valued differently by others. As I have said, I enjoy a fag so I spend my money on it, I enjoy a beer so I spend my money on it, I enjoy farming so I don't make a lot of money at it....

i do agree mind, smoking is an expensive habit now, but then so are women...

What about obesity ?
obesity and smoking well let's see,
probably neither would be employed by many on here, but a few facts from Gov website
smoking cost NHS 2.6 billion per year, obesity costs about 26 billion a year, yes ten times that of smoking,
revenue from Tabaco to Gov is 12 billion a year, that leave the government 9.4 billion a year in the green,
yet not only does food bring very little in for the Gov, but on top the government spend over 3 billion to give to farmer,
so all of you health conscious people out there, stop producing cheap food and costing the government loads of money, strange how you cannot put up with one thing, yet more than happy to support and aid a far bigger problem

with regards to cost,
it is my money, and after I have earned it less tax etc, I can do what I want with it, I have never had any benefits of any shape or form or yearly pay check from the government at anytime in my life,
so it's a bit kettle pot black on here going on about the waste of money, yet they cannot manage themselves without claiming benefits

Lady: Do you smoke?
Guy: Yes I do.
Lady: How many packs a day?
Guy: 3 packs.
Lady: How much per pack?
Guy: £10.00 per pack.
Lady: And how long have you been smoking?
Guy: 15 years
Lady: So 1 pack is £10.00 and you have been smoking 3 packs a day which puts your spending per month at £900. In 1 year, it would have been £10,800. Correct?
Guy: Correct.
Lady: If 1 year you spend £10,800, not accounting for inflation, the past 15 years puts your spending total at £162,000. Correct?
Guy: Correct.
Lady: Do you know if you hadn't smoke, that money could have been put in a step-up interest savings account and after accounting for compound interest for the past 15 years, you could have by now bought a Ferrari?
Guy: Oh. Do you smoke?
Lady: No.
Guy: Then where's your f******* Ferrari?

I'd say that applies to my dad. He has never wanted to stop enough to even give it a go. Perhaps he likes it too much. Perhaps he's addicted. Perhaps the habit beckons. All three I'd say. The result is the same anyway. Smoking is an addictive vice that is hard to stop once you start.
That sounds just like my father, he was a heavy smoker 40 a day all his life . Cancer killed him in the end or old age ? He was eighty nine and died following complications after a stomach cancer operation. Is your father still with you ? My own smoking days are coming to an end im slowly giving up down to 4 or 5 a week now .

We don’t have any smokers on the farm and there are no smoking signs on all the entrances. Some visitors (normally lorry drivers) light up anyway but as long as they’re in open spaces we tend to let it go, just tell them not to drop the butts. A few better ones ask if they can have a smoke while we load them and that’s ok. Several people have been thrown out of the yard over the years for smoking in the hay and straw shed!! I know of a beet harvester that needed a whole new cab interior when traded in after a few years with a smoking driver.

I agree it's a lot of money, but plenty of people regularly pee that money up against a wall
